“I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration ....I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week.”
Obviously, President Trump had a grownup compose this tweet for him. My guess is Mr. Bolton told President Trump he sh ould go f**k himself, or similar.

Bolton is already saying that he wasn’t fired, he quit:

Yup. I’m no fan of John Bolton, but he has more credibility with me than does President Trump.

Only the best people, so much winning.

Since he seemed intent on starting a war with Iran I’m glad he’s gone, but now I get to be concerned with who gets appointed next.

More to this than palace intrigue, suppose I.

I really think Trump just doesn’t know to spell and this whole time has been tweeting about “whining”.
Given how much whining there is, this must be the case, right?

F rankly, this surprises me, and suggests that President Trump might be an actual moron. Bolton was/is respected by many AFAIK. Bolton’s sacking must be difficult for the Trump base to protest or refute.

Francis the Talking Mule has more credibility.

Sounds right, I sure am tired of the winning/whining from him and the base.

I wonder what set him off. 45 either wants to play strategist, or something big is going to come down and Bolton wanted out first.

Thank God he was fired/quit (doesn’t matter) before he got us into another war. Fuck that guy with a rus
ty chainsaw.

I don’t think it has to be anything fancy. It’s quite possible Bolton just called Trump a coward for not bombing Iran or something.

For all his faults Trump at least seems very resistant to starting a war. Bolton and Pompeo seemed hell bent on active conflict with Iran when that tanker issue came up a couple months ago.

Very much this.

He wants to get re-elected. Presidents who end wars (Afghanistan, Syria) get re-elected. Presidents who start wars tend not to be. But even if sending troops to battle or starting war is absolutely what is needed, he won’t have the courage to make the call.

Respected by who exactly? Fellow war criminals? Bolton hasn’t heard of a foreign country he didn’t want to bomb

I kind of want it to be something fancy. I am no fan of chickenhawks like Bolton, but I’d find him more believable than his ex-boss.

One thing about Trump I don’t hate is his anti-interventionist impulse. If it were up to Bolton, Tehran, Caracas, and Pyongyang (and by extension Seoul and maybe Tokyo, among others) would be smoldering craters right now, and a few million people who are currently alive would be dead. Of course if Trump had even an atom of intellectual curiosity or a brain that wasn’t made of jello, he wouldn’t have appointed Bolton in the first place.

When this showed up on my phone news alert I just laughed. Trump says he fired Bolton, Bolton said he resigned. Trump will definitely report it as his decision, because he is clearly the Decider in Chief.

Or called Trump a f**ing moron to his face. Same difference, ultimately.
![]() 09/10/2019 at 14:23 |

Or Bolton simply concluded that Trump is a moron and didn’t want to be associated with him.

Definitely a possibility, rat fleeing a sinking ship.

It’s a more upbeat assessment, and I’m sticking to it.

That is the point that makes little sense. was bolton A) the only one that showed up for the job, b) trump blinded by his praise on fox, C) believed what he was selling, D) all of the above.

T hat Bolton got the job at all just shows how shallow the talent pool of people willing to work for Trump is .
